Most everyone knows that the quickest way to lose weight is not always necessarily the safest or the healthiest. However, there are times when we may need to drop a few pounds in a hurry, and it can be tempting to try some of the fad diets that so many people are talking about, most of which are far from healthy.
Below are a couple of easy to institute tips that will make quick weight loss possible, but in a healthier way than most diets.
- Plan your meals. I like to do this on a daily basis as well as a weekly basis. I don’t mean down to the menu, but I like to be prepared. If I am leaving for the day, I like to take a small variety of food with me and commit to only eating that food during the day. This is an easy way to get a good balance of nutrients and see what you need to pack more of.
This also allows you to avoid hunger which can cause cravings and lead to periods of low will power. Looking at all of your nutrition and proportions before hand can go a long way in helping you reach your weight loss goals. Planning on a weekly basis can also help you with your shopping list and time management.
- If you are accustomed to eating out or just eating big meals, simply cut your meals in half. This can be kind of subjective but you can get a pretty good idea of what you would have considered a meal in the past.
Simply put the amount of food that you normally would onto your plate, then take half of it back off in advance and save it for later or feed it to the dog. In time you will get used to the smaller portions, especially when you begin losing weight fast.
Americans especially are famous for cleaning our plates, and though grandma may tell you differently, there is no reason to finish everything on your plate. If you are no longer hungry, stop eating. Eat slower. Typical Americans are finished with a meal in less than 12 minutes – it takes at least 15 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you are full.
- Eat your meals in courses. Sounds fancy I know, but there is a good reason for it, related to the above point. It slows you down. I suggest your first course be a small salad and two glasses of water, after which you take a little break before digging into the main course.
This way, your tummy will have time to notify your brain that it has had enough. Studies show that participants eat up to 35% less in this situation.
These three simple tips for healthier living can really help you to get started on the right path to healthier eating habits, as well as addressing any questions you may have had about whether or not diets for quick weight loss could really be effective.
