There are a huge number of people looking for all kinds of weight loss tips to help them to lose weight successfully. While some are extremely useful and helpful, it cannot be denied that the whole process of losing weight boils down to just a handful of fundamental basics. These can be easily explained in a few short paragraphs, as we shall see.
A person’s body weight is part of their overall design and is meant to be kept in a stabilized, balanced area by the body’s own processes that include digestion, metabolism and cardio-vascular processes.

To keep it as simple as possible, all you really need to know is that the body will maintain a balanced weight as long as the energy created by the amount of food going in is used up by the amount of work the body does. This energy is measured in units called calories, which most dieters are familiar with.
So as long as the number of calories going in does not exceed the number of calories burned, then you will not gain weight.
That’s a pretty sweeping statement but when you think about it, it makes sense. It’s all about the creation of mass, in this sense, body mass.
When you consume a high level of calories but burn them all off through strenuous exercise, you gain muscle mass and lose fat mass. Your weight may actually increase a little because muscle weighs more than fat, but your body will look toned and in great shape.
Bodybuilders take this to extremes by building huge muscles, but for most people whose primary goal is just losing body fat, that is not necessary or even desirable. Also, unless someone is very overweight or obese, while they believe they want to lose weight, what they really want is to have a slimmer, fitter looking body that will look good in nice clothes.
Often, this is attempted through diet plans to lose weight, but while this can bring short term success for some people, it doesn’t work for everyone and even when it does work, the common tendency is to put the weight back on again as soon as the diet is finished.
What needs to happen for losing body fat for the long term, coupled with a better looking body is to achieve it through a combination of healthy diet and a daily exercise routine.
The diet is to ensure good health and to provide the body with all the nutrients it needs, while the exercise is to tone up the muscles, firm up the flabby parts and burn the excess calories through boosting the metabolism. In short, to build a better looking body!
There is a fair amount of science behind all of this, but it would be too much to go into in any great depth in this article. Hopefully this has provided you with the information you need to get you thinking about this from a wider viewpoint than just dieting to lose weight, to give you a much better chance of long term success in body shape, fitness levels and overall health.
