Alli weight loss, fda approved diet pills for over-the-counter, is a reduced strength version of the prescription drug Orlistat (Xenical) – a drug used to treat obesity in adults 18 years old and up.

Alli, pronounced “AL-eye”, is designed to be used along with a regular exercise routine and a reduced calorie, low fat diet (about 30% of calories from fat) to avoid some of the unpleasant side effects associated with it (discussed later).

The Alli diet pill is not an appetite suppressant like most weight loss drugs but rather a fat blocker that works by preventing fat absorption from the foods you eat – moving fat through your intestines undigested and eliminating it through bowel movements.

The less fat you absorb from the meals you eat – the fewer calories you absorb.

Alli Side Effects

Like any other weight loss products or programs, Alli can have some unpleasant side effects, the majority of which center around digestive and bowel related problems.

Gas, sudden loose stools, urgent bowel movements, diarrhea, and an oily discharge or spotting are inherent problems associated with taking the drug. It is best to avoid eating a lot of fatty foods while you’re taking Alli, because the more fat you eat, the worse its’ side effects.

An executive of the makers of Alli recommends, among other weight loss tips for Alli users, that anyone taking the drug also take a daily multivitamin supplement as it can interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins including A, D, E & K (beta-carotene). He also advises that in order to prevent depletion of the contents of the supplement, it should be taken several hours before or after taking the Alli or ideally at bedtime.

Alli is not intended for anyone who just wants to lose a few pounds, but rather for people who are truly obese. It is not a magic pill or a quick-fix for your weight loss woes, though it can make your weight loss efforts easier than dieting and exercise alone.

You will, however, need to be committed to limiting your fat intake and calories before beginning an Alli weight loss program, and exercise such as walking or jogging is an important part of the program. Always consult your doctor before taking any weight loss product – especially if you take blood thinners or have diabetes or thyroid disease.

In the end, there are mixed reviews on the Alli weight loss system and its side effects. Its promoters claim it is a safe weight loss product when taken as directed, and that it is a “much-studied drug with a long track record” that does not cause the jitters and sleeplessness associated with many other products designed for weight loss because it works in your digestive system.

However, there are those who strongly disagree with these views. Some Alli weight loss users claim that they have suffered liver damage as a result of taking the drug which has spurred an investigation by the Food And Drug Administration. Dr. Holly Phillips discusses these claims in the video clip below.
