You can do this by merely cutting down the amount of food by about one forth at first, then one forth more until you are eating about one quarter of the amount you normally eat. You should be eating about twenty-five percent of your normal food intake one week before starting your fast.

On the first day of your fast, you will need to drink a lot of water and a lot of fresh fruit juice. Make the fruit juice yourself by buying fresh fruit and processing it through a juicer. At least ninety-six ounces of water must be consumed beginning on the first day of the fast, and you will continue to drink at least that much water each day of your fast.

By the end of the second day, you will probably experience some new sensations that will not always be pleasant. Nausea, headaches and dizziness are common, but these symptoms usually pass quickly. By the third day your system will be flushing because of all the water intake and your body will begin to experience a quick weight loss. This is commonly called “the water fast”, and for five days while on your fast diet, you will continue to lose weight.

At the conclusion of the fifth day, you must begin to end the fast. Gradually you will take nourishment in the form of light broth or light clear vegetable soup. Slowly you will begin the process of reversing the fast and by the end of the tenth day you will be back to eating normally, having experienced a fasting diet. Most people undertaking a fast will lose at least ten pounds in ten days.

There is one basic rule to the fast diet, and that rule is to carefully discuss the concept of fasting with your doctor. Let him or her decide if you are healthy enough for the stresses of going on a fast or if a different sort of lifestyle modification is best for you.
