Are you one of the millions of people all over the world who suffer with weight problems? Even with all the different weight loss solutions being tossed about nowadays, there is still an alarming number of overweight people in the world. As a result of a feeling of desperation because of the extra weight, many turn to all kinds of different methods to get rid of the weight, seemingly with no concern about the safety or efficacy of the plan.

One such method that claims to be the latest discovery in ‘weight loss breakthroughs’ is called the HCG injections and diet system.

This program touts amazing results from following their program, and even claims to help you to lose ‘several pounds’ in a day. You are assured that this program will ‘correct your metabolism problems’ so that you won’t have to worry about gaining the weight back, once lost. Sounds like a dream come true doesn’t it?

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone produced during pregnancy. One of the roles of HCG during pregnancy is breaking down abdominal fats for energy use of the fetus, thus increasing the metabolism of the mother. Because of this process, many assume that the hormone can be used effectively for weight loss.

injectionsIt was Dr. Albert Simeons, a British endocrinologist, who created a diet plan which involved injecting participants with HCG. He believed that it would help breakdown stored fats and increase metabolism, resulting in weight loss.

In 2007, Kevin Trudeau, wrote a book which states that for HCG injections to work, they must be coupled with the ‘HCG diet’. He made a lot of big claims in his book, but the claims were not supported by facts. One of those claims is that the HCG diet will help you to lose 1-3 pounds per day.

This diet is a combination of daily HCG injections and a caloric intake of a ridiculously low 500 calories a day. If you are not put off by the idea of having daily hormone injections, the thought of only being allowed to eat 500 calories a day might do the trick. That amount of calories can’t even support your brain’s normal functions. As a result of trying to live on such a low calorie diet, your body will compensate by using stored glycogen, fats and protein, thus lowering your metabolism (not correcting it, as is claimed).

There have been a lot of claims made about HCG for weight loss that sound believable, but there is no scientific proof of this regimen as a weight loss strategy. And in addition, HCG shots have not been approved for weight loss by the FDA. Unfortunately, to date there has not been a pill or injection discovered that would take all the work out of losing weight, and each individual will have to decide what they want to believe.
