Eating is one of life’s daily necessary tasks that is also one of it’s most pleasurable. Yes, eating is a fun and enjoyable activity, but once you start to associate it as a means of getting over unpleasant feelings like anger or loneliness, then it turns into emotional eating.
The next level up from emotional eating is the more extreme binge eating, where you begin to think of eating as the only means of cheering yourself up. The trick to getting over binging eating is to realize that there are other less destructive and more worthwhile ways of lifting your spirits other than a trip to the pantry or fridge.
The two activities listed below can help distract you should the urge to binge come, and when approached with an open mind, may be just what you need to start living a richer and fuller life.
Start a new hobby
Taking up a new class or sideline has been prescribed for practically any problem you can think of, but there is a good reason for this – it simply works!
Think of things you’re interested in or passionate about, and start with that. For instance, many women are known to love jewellery, and that’s a start. If shopping for diamonds or emeralds is beyond your budget, you can feed your interest by reading up on the different kinds of precious gems and where they can be found.
If you’ve always wanted to learn a new language, then sign up for an easy online course where you can teach yourself French or Italian or whatever language interests you.
Give yourself a makeover
You’ve already decided to find out how to stop binge eating, and that in itself is a great first step toward making yourself over into a kinder, more confident you.
To further help you to get over your binge eating problem, take your reinvention higher by getting a new chic haircut, a bracelet or two of semi-precious stones or a new dress in the latest fashion to keep motivated.
Don’t neglect to give yourself a treat, for once you start appreciating yourself, you will automatically want to look good by getting healthy and happy.
